If you fancy taking on the world’s best darts players you might soon have the chance. Former world champion, Jelle ‘The Cobra’ Klassen, and former world finalist, Simon ‘The Wizard’ Whitlock, are coming to Mayo to take part in darts fundraisers.
Dutchman Klassen, who was the youngest world champion when he won the 2006 BDO World Darts Championship aged 21, will be playing in The Big Tree, Westport, on Thursday, August 24, while Australian Whitlock will be appearing in The Dalton Inn Hotel, Claremorris, on Thursday, September 14.
The fundraisers are in aid of seven-year-old Achill girl, Caoimhe Cafferkey, who suffers from a rare illness called bladder exstropy and as a result she needs ongoing treatment in Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
Darts players from around Mayo and the west are asked to put their name forward for the chance to take on the world’s best.
Tickets to play Jelle Klassen in Westport cost €10 and are available to buy at the door at The Big Tree. A limited number of VIP tickets to meet Simon Whitlock in The Dalton Inn in Claremorris are still available at €35 each. Normal tickets for the event are also on sale for €15.
This is not the first time the world’s top darts players have travelled to the west of Ireland to take part in a fundraiser in aid of Caoimhe. Earlier this year, two-time PDC World Champion Gary Anderson travelled to Mayo to take part in a darts fundraiser, and other professionals are also scheduled to take part in events later in the year.
