TREATMENT HOPE Caroline and her husband Kevin.
Michael Commins
A fund-raising venture in support of Caroline Hynes-Lydon from Liskillen, Ballinrobe, takes place on Saturday, August 5. Caroline has been coping with Trigeminal Neuralgia (a chronic pain disorder that affects the trigeminal nerve) for the last four years and is hoping to avail of treatment and an operation in London.
The typical form of Trigeminal Neuralgia results in episodes of severe, sudden, shock like pain in one side of the face that lasts for seconds to a few minutes.
The Rigs and Jigs evening gets underway with a Truck Run from Ballinrobe to Tourmakeady. Several volunteer drivers have already committed to this venture which will leave from Ballinrobe Mart at 5pm.
The evening will be centred at Máire Luke’s with a live music, dancing, a raffle and auction, and a barbecue by the lake. The music and auction starts at 9.30pm.
The R&J Teen Disco (13-17) will be held in Tourmakeady Community Centre from 8pm to 11pm. Tickets are available in Martin Murphy’s, Ballinrobe.
Caroline, who does voluntary work in the Hospice Shop in Ballinrobe, is grateful to the many people who have come together to organise this special venture.
“I have been coping with some horrendous pain for the last four years. There are days when you just manage to get by. The pain is chronic and I have had a lot of seizures and black-outs in the last year. I have been on a lot of morphine and have also been in intensive care in hospital.
“A group of friends have set up a committee to coordinate some fund-raising to help me avail of the operation and treatment in London. I am so thankful to everyone who has come on board and is helping out in any way at all,” says Caroline.
Caroline is married to Kevin Lydon, a native of Tourmakeady, and they have a family of three. All support will be most welcome for the Rigs and Jigs evening and night in Tourmakeady.
