TREK Hanley and Emma Whelan will climb Croagh Patrick this Saturday.

Charity fundraising is usually a human pursuit. However, this Saturday, July 8, Hanley Hound, a seven-year-old dog, will climb Croagh Patrick for to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society, an organisation close to his owners’ hearts.
Hanley Hound will be accompanied by his owners from the Hollybarn Dog and Puppy Training centre, which was setup in the west of Ireland and is run by leading dog trainer, animal behaviourist and qualified vetinary nurse Emma Whelan.
The dog is currently working on strength training with Emma, who told The Mayo News last week that she is hoping ‘his little legs will take him smoothly up Croagh Patrick without too much stress’.
Last year, 82 patients across Mayo received 490 nights of care through the Irish Cancer Society’s Night Nursing Service. The service itself allows ill patients to receive end-of-life care at home, surrounded by their families and supported by the home-care nursing team. The service is the only free, out-of-hours nursing service available to cancer patients in Irelan. Meanwhile, ICS volunteer drivers were also on hand for 365 journeys for 35 cancer patients across the county, easing the burden of treatment for people.
