THE MAYO-Abbey based Monaghan Bros Bar Manufacturers have been awarded the coveted ‘Best Exporters Award’  for their business at the National Enterprise Awards 2017.
The company – founded by brothers Peter, Michael, Richard and Paddy Monaghan – received the award on behalf of An Taoiseach Enda Kenny at a glamourous awards night held in the Mansion House, Dublin last Thursday.
The National Enterprise Awards celebrate the achievements of Ireland’s top small businesses and micro-enterprises and the Mayo-Abbey based firm was awarded for their ever-increasing ability to to keep up with the extensive demand of the international market where they are currently supplying their product to 12 countries worldwide.
Speaking to The Mayo News, Peter Monaghan of Monaghan Bros, highlighted the importance of such an award to a local business like their own and praised the effort put in across the board.
“What this will really do is enhance our reputation in the international-market and make us more attractive to new customers,” he said. “It will give us more recognition and international customers will feel much more comfortable dealing with us. The export award was key to us as a business because that is the market we are aiming for going forward.
“We really couldn’t have done this without the continued hard-work and support from all our staff members.”
Upon receiving the award from Mr Kenny, An Taoiseach acknowledged to the 200+ crowd that it was excellent to see a Mayo winner on a national stage in Dublin.
Monaghan Bros Bar Furniture was established in 1987 and it is synonymous with producing high quality standard and custom made furniture for the hospitality industry. It employs 15 people in their impressive headquarters built on their family holding just outside Balla.
As well as supplying approximately 30 percent of the indigenous Irish market, by the end of 2018 they will a have a fully functioning sales and marketing department providing warehouse and distribution services in Rhode Island, USA.
They are also on the verge of signing an exclusive distribution contract for the US with Trimark USA, Milwaukee, this coming August that will see them double their turnover in the next 36 months.
Chief Executive at Mayo County Council, Peter Hynes, added: “Monaghan Brothers are an shining example of how a family-run business can operate successfully in rural Mayo. Winning this award has come at an excellent juncture of Monaghan Brothers growth strategy as they expand into the US market with the assistance of Ireland West International Trade Centre in Rhode Island, a collaborative initiative between a number of local authorities in the west of Ireland, WDC and Ireland West Airport Knock, to assist companies based in the west of Ireland to explore new markets.”
