A meeting to discuss the future of the MacBride Community Nursing Unit (CNU) in Westport is scheduled to take place between local councillors and the HSE next Monday.
Cathaoirleach of the West Mayo Municipal District, Cllr Brendan Mulroy, had asked about meeting a representative of the HSE at a previous gathering of the local authority, and has confirmed that the meeting is set to go ahead before next Monday’s monthly district meeting of the local authority in Westport.
There has been some speculation and fear in relation to the future of day services at the MacBride Community Nursing Unit in recent months, with Cllr Mulroy telling elected colleagues at a meeting last year that day services at the unit are subject to suspension at short notice owing to staffing issues.
It is understood that the day service is currently operational three days a week, but councillors would like to see this reinstated to five days a week. Cllr Mulroy revealed that also on the agenda will be staffing levels at the MacBride CNU, while he also intends to inquire about the full-time residential service there, which he understands is secure but wants to have this confirmed.
