Kiltimagh honours Kilcoyne
Michael Commins
THE Kiltimagh community paid a glowing tribute on Friday night to Fr Paddy Kilcoyne, PP, on the occasion of the ruby anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.
A capacity congregation was present for the concelebrated Mass in the Church of the Holy Family and Fr Paddy was given a warm reception by parishioners and family friends.
There was a spontaneous round of applause when the Sligo flag was brought to the altar in the offertory procession. Fr Paddy, a native of Tubbercurry, donned his native county jersey in former years and was thrilled to see Sligo regain the Connacht title after a gap of 32 years. Local man Gerry King presided at the offertory commentary. The Kiltimagh Parish Choir added their wonderful talents to the occasion.
Later, a thronged Park Hotel played host to the celebration party. Compere Danny Doherty set the scene and delivered the address of welcome to Fr Paddy and to many members of the Kilcoyne family who had travelled from various parts to share in the celebrations in Kiltimagh. Other speakers included Fr John Durkan, George Lee and Tom Macken.
A presentation of stained glass, designed by local man Aiden Page, and with a religious theme from the early church, was made to Fr Paddy on behalf of the community. He was also the recipient of a presentation of golf accessories.
Fr Paddy expressed his gratitude and thanks to everyone associated with organising the special night to mark the 40th anniversary of his ordination. He told the gathering that he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of goodwill throughout the community and was deeply grateful to everyone who had supported the night.
Music was provided by Jack Wilkinson (who is also the church sacristan) and the Jollymen and they were joined by a few guest singers during the night.
