Kevin McGeever released on bail

SWINFORD native and former property developer Kevin McGeever was released on bail last Friday. Earlier McGeever had been remanded in custody at Castlerea Prison for two-and-a-half weeks after he failed come up with money for bail.
The 68 year old, who claimed he was kidnapped after he was found in a dishevelled state on a roadside in Co Leitrim last January, will appear in court next month facing two charges of wasting garda time.
McGeever, with an address at Nirvana, Ballywinna, Craughwell, Co Galway, claimed he was held captive by a gang for eight months.
The Mayo man appeared at Harristown District Court last week after the terms of his bail were amended at the High Court. Those terms require that he reside at an address at Brooklawn, Clontarf, in Dublin; sign on with gardaí three times a week; and surrender his travel documents.
Mr McGeever was reported missing in May 2012 and was not seen until January 2013, when he was found by a passerby.
On leaving Castlerea Prison last Friday, McGeever said he was ‘looking good and feeling fine’, adding: ‘I am a west of Ireland man, and I hope Mayo win the All-Ireland’.
He was released on his own bond of €10,000 and will appear at Loughrea District Court on September 4 next.
