Opposition to Partry mast

LOCALS in Partry have voiced their opposition to a proposed telecommunications mast for the picturesque south Mayo village.
It is believed that the newly-formed opposition committee are citing health and aesthetic reasons as the basis for their objection.
A Galway-based company, Elevation Towers Limited, lodged an application with Mayo County Council on June 12 to construct a 30-metre high telecommunications support structure carrying antennae and link dishes, together with associated equipment containers, security fence and access track.
The development is to be situated at Carrowmoney, Partry. However, the location of the proposed site is known locally as Carrawina.
According to one source, if the full planning permission is granted, the tower will be situated between two special areas of conservation, overlooking Lough Mask and the Partry mountains.
“This is unnacceptable and we are investigating the situation to determine what rights we have,” said the source.
