STATE Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy (pictured) and members of the Garda Technical Bureau arrived in Mayo yesterday (Monday) evening to investigate the discovery of a female body on land in the village of Kilgalligan, Carrowtigue.
The body of the woman, an Irish national in her early thirties, was discovered in the early hours of Monday morning and reported to local Gardaí. Her body was found outside her two-person tent where she had been camping in a field near the sea. A Garda spokesperson told The Mayo News yesterday that the scene was being preserved and the body kept in situ overnight pending further investigation.
The Garda spokesperson refused to describe the circumstances as suspicious, based on the fact that the ‘cause of death may have been accidental’. The Mayo News has received unconfirmed reports that the woman’s body may have had burns. Sources also revealed that the woman is believed to be from the Glenamoy area.
At time of writing, no further details of the case were being disclosed.
