Murder accused remanded in custody until January 18
A 48-year-old man charged with the murder of Killala woman Sandra Collins was remanded in custody for a further two weeks after he appeared before Harristown District Court.
Martin Earley (48) of Bannagher, Carrowmore, Lacken appeared before the court on Friday last and after a short hearing he was remanded in custody to appear before Harristown Court on January 18.
Mr Earley was charged on December 28 with the murder of Sandra Collins, who was 29 years old when she was last seen outside a chipper in Killala in December 2000. Mr Earley was arrested after he returned home from England, where he was working, for Christmas and has since been in custody in Castlerea Prison.
Ms Collins went missing on the night of December 4, 2000 and despite an extensive search of the Killala area her body has never been recovered. A few days after she had gone missing, her fleece jacket was found on the pier at Killala but gardaí do not believe she took her own life and it is presumed that she was murdered. The family of Ms Collins launched a number of appeals over the years seeking information into her disappearance including poster appeals and television programmes appeals.
