Mayo News journalist Michael Commins will present a special show on Ireland’s King of Country Music, Big Tom, on Sky 191 this evening, Tuesday, January 8 between 6pm and 7.30pm. The show, which can also be accessed on Freesat 400 and Free View, is in the Hot Country Life Stories series.
This is Michael’s first time hosting a television show and, with Big Tom’s huge following, this broadcast is certain to attract a major audience.
“Hugh O’Brien from Cork, who launched Hot Country, the first Irish show on Sky’s Showcase channel three years ago, asked me to present this special show on Big Tom. The programme was filmed in the McBride family home in Oram near Castleblayney and takes an in-depth look at the amazing career of the man who topped the bill before a crowd of 82,000 at Willesden Park, London in the late 1980s,” says Michael.
“The show features some out and about shots from around Castleblayney as well as many nostalgic photos. We were also delighted to speak to Rose McBride, Tom’s wife, and she also features in the broadcast.
“The interview was recorded in the McBride family home and has a very relaxed style. Also included are some of the songs which have made Big Tom a household name since the mid 1960s.
“We spent a lovely afternoon with Tom and Rose and the affection and status in which he is held around Monaghan was so evident throughout the day. It truly was a privilege to record this interview which I hope will be enjoyed by many thousands of viewers around Ireland, the UK and across Europe.”
For anyone who missed the show this evening, there will be a repeat on Sky 191 and Freesat 400 next Saturday evening, January 12 from 6pm to 7.30pm.
