Cattle taken in brazen attack

Michael Commins

GARDAI in Claremorris are carrying out an extensive investigation into the abduction of eleven cattle from a farm at Murneen North, Claremorris. The cattle were taken sometime during Wednesday night, December 19 from a shed beside Murneen railway bridge.
Three Belgian Blues, three Limousines and five Charolais were stolen from the shed which housed just over sixty animals. Those taken were between nine months and two years.
News of such a large theft of cattle has shocked the local rural community. The callous and brazen nature of the rustling was added to even further by the fact that there was a bereavement in the extended family circle that very day and members had attended a funeral earlier in the night. Gardai are appealing to anyone who spotted a vehicle, or extra road activity, in the area, or a heavy vehicle passing late at night within a few miles of the area, to contact them as soon as possible to help them get a time frame on the incident and pursue further lines of investigation. The number of Claremorris Garda Station is 094 9371222.
