IMPRESSED Hector Ó hEochagáin
Mayo News wins 2fm Newspaper of the Year award
The Mayo News was named Newspaper of the Year by Ronan Casey during Hector on 2fm’s ‘Medium Sized Town Fairly Big Story’ slot yesterday (Tuesday) morning. The award comes just weeks after the paper celebrated its 120th anniversary.
Commenting on the award, Mayo News Managing Editor Neill O’Neill said he was delighted that The Mayo News had been honoured by the popular Hector on 2fm show, and he thanked Ronan Casey and 2fm: “It is always nice to see our hard work being recognised so prominently, and we would like to thank Hector Ó hEochagáin and Ronan and all at 2fm for their kind words.
“Their references to us throughout the year – and their recognition of our innovative approach to providing the highest standard of coverage of local events, news and sport – are a great endorsement.
“The pages of local newspapers are where the humorous and unusual events that occur in Ireland can be brought to life. This award recognises that The Mayo News has been at the forefront of documenting these for the last 120 years.”
Describing The Mayo News as ‘a magnificent paper’, Ronan Casey said it was “a fine example of a newspaper that you really do not have to be from the area to read … a paper that week after week delivers great stories and amazing headlines.”
Ronan went on to heap praise not only on the paper but also on its recent 120th Anniversary Supplement, which readers can download free from mayonews.ie.
