A man who was arrested after the crash of a car ‘acting suspiciously’ in South Mayo has appeared before court.
Patrick O’Donovan of 6, Sundale Close, Tallaght, Dublin appeared before Spiddal District Court on Thursday last charges with handling stolen property, theft and criminal damage on December 6 last.
O’Donovan was one of two men arrested at Belmont, Milltown, Galway, just over the Mayo border, after a car in which they were back seat passengers, crashed at approximately 9pm. The driver and front-seat passenger escaped and were not apprehended.
The car, a blue Volvo, had been spotted by gardaí earlier that evening in the Hollymount area and they had pursued it. O’Donovan was remanded in custody to Harristown District Court last Friday and there he was further remanded in custody to Harristown District Court on January 4 next.
The second man arrested at the scene on December 6 before being brought to hospital remains in hospital.
