THE East Mayo areas around Kiltimagh, Aghamore, Knock and Barnacarroll are in mourning following the tragic death of 22 year old JJ McHugh from Cahir, Kiltimagh in a road traffic accident near Ballinacarrow on the Main N17 road last Friday morning. He was returning to his home near Kiltimagh at the time of the two vehicle crash on a narrow stretch of the main road.
The sad news has cast a major shadow over the region where JJ was well known among his own age group and where his family is highly regarded throughout the community. He was the second eldest of a family of four. His father Jarlath is from Cahir while is mother Margaret was formerly Govin from Mace, Claremorris and daughter of the late Tom and Josie Govin.
JJ, who was working part-time in Mulhern’s of Kiltimagh, was also completing studies at Sligo college. He had a major interest in farming and the land and was much to the fore at showing cattle, especially Charolais, at shows around the region. He had a special fondness for the big show in Bonniconlon and was among the prizewinners there last August.
Many friends have been paying tribute to JJ in recent days, recalling his easy going manner and hard working ethic. The hearts of all in the region go out to his parents Margaret and Jarlath and to his sister Mary and brothers James and Liam and the extended family circles at this time.
Interment will take place in Knock Cemetery today (Tuesday) following the celebration of Requiem Mass in Aghamore Church at 12 noon.
