A list of proposals submitted to Castlebar Town Council and Mayo County Council regarding the proposed pool complex at the new National Outdoor Pursuits Academy in the town will be discussed at the December meeting of the authority.
Town Manager Seamus Granahan told the October meeting of the authority that the councils had received ‘lots of proposals’, all of which would be looked at and that the matter was ‘a high priority’.
Among them is a proposal by Cllr Frank Durcan that the pool be 50 metres long - the current plans provide for a 25 metre pool. A member of the public, Veronica Neeley, has made a detailed submission arguing the benefits of a hydrotherapy pool in the new complex.
Cllr Noreen Heston singled out Ms Neeley for praise in coming forward with such a proposal and trying to be proactive in ‘helping her community’.
She praised Ms Neeley also for speaking to so many experts and groups who had approved of the proposals and said that the pool ‘would benefit so many people’.
