LOVERS of local radio in Westport will be delighted to hear that from next Saturday onwards, local community station WRFM will be back on the airwaves, at its usually 98.2pm frequency.
Broadcasting Authority of Ireland officials Clare O’Sullivan and Elizabeth Farrelly paid a visit to the station’s state of the art studio just off James Street last Friday to deliver the good news that another 100 day license had been granted to the popular local station.
This means the station can revert back to its normal weekend broadcasting hours on Saturdays and Sundays for the next year.
Station manager Stephen O’Brien said everyone involved with the station was delighted with the news and they were all ‘raring to go live’ again next weekend.
“We’ve only been off for a few weeks but it feels longer than that and a lot of people have been enquiring when were we coming back on stream. The granting of the license means it will be business as usual from next Saturday on, we will be live from 8am to 12 noon on both Saturday and Sunday for the next 50 weekends.”
Stephen said the response from the Westport community had been superb but he urged there was still plenty of room for more volunteers and sponsors to get involved.
“As far as we are concerned, its onwards and upwards from here. All of our popular shows will be back on air and anyone who would like to get involved is welcome to contact the station on 098 24000 or e-mail info@wrfm.ie,” added Stephen.
