MAYO County Council has received the Best Public Service Innovation Award at The Irish Times InterTradeIreland Innovation Awards. It was among the six finalists in the prestigious awards announced last week and was honoured for its development of the Great Western Greenway from Westport to Achill.
The 42-kilometre cycling and walking route, which follows the old railway line to Achill, has already been feted as a major tourism attraction for the area.
The category award, presented in Dublin, encompasses a €10,000 communications package in The Irish Times Innovation Magazine and an iPad with a one year subscription to The Irish Times ePaper.
The county council’s Walking and Cycling Development Officer, Anna Connor said it was ‘a tremendous honour’ to receive the award.
