Two men were arrested and questioned in relation to a stabbing incident in Claremorris last Thursday which resulted in a 22-year-old male undergoing surgery in Mayo General Hospital.
The two men in their twenties who are not from Mayo were arrested over the weekend before being released following questioning and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. The 22-year-old male who was stabbed in the attack remains in Mayo General Hospital and is in a stable condition.
The incident occurred at approximately 8.20pm on Thursday, February 17 on James Street, Claremorris close to Flynn’s Pharmacy and Heaney’s Hardware. The victim is not from the immediate locality but does live in the Mayo area.
Following the attack, the victim left the scene before entering a local hotel where the emergency services were called. He was brought to Mayo General Hospital and underwent emergency surgery. A Garda spokesperson told The Mayo News that his condition is described as stable.
Following the stabbing, Gardaí investigating the incident appeared for information on two men in their early twenties who were seen in the area. Two men matching their description were later arrested by gardaí.
