Kiltimagh driver dies in accident

Michael Commins

A young Kiltimagh man lost his life in a road accident on Friday night on the main road between Ballyvary and Bohola, close to Carragowan old school about a mile from Bohola.
Declan Regan (23), Corrahoor, Swinford Road, Kiltimagh was the sole occupant of a car which is understood to have collided with another vehicle before crashing into a ditch. He was removed by ambulance to the General Hospital in Castlebar where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Four people in the other car were also removed to Castlebar hospital for observation.
Declan was son of Denis and Chris Regan and a brother of Paul and Emer. His father, a native of Carracastle, is involved in the pig rearing industry and came to Kiltimagh in the 1970s. Chris, nee Murphy from Lecarrow, Charlestown, is a member of the nursing staff at the General Hospital in Castlebar. His brother Paul plays senior football with Kiltimagh.
News of the tragedy was received with much sadness and regret in Kiltimagh and where the family have connections in East Mayo. A constant stream of callers visited the family home close to the Park Hotel throughout Sunday afternoon and night to express their sympathy and condolences to the family.
Removal took place form the family home yesterday morning (Monday) to the Church of the Holy Family, Kiltimagh with burial afterwards in Kilkinure cemetery. The community extends deepest sympathy to the Regan family and their wide circle of relations and friends on this tragic occasion.
