Kilcoyne unlikely to make election debut

OUTSPOKEN Independent County Councillor Michael Kilcoyne (pictured) is sitting on the fence and has yet to decide if he will be standing in the General Election.
Cllr Kilcoyne had hinted that he would be putting his name forward for the General Election but is now reluctant to announce his intentions on the back of the Greens pulling out of Government.
The Independent Councillor will be meeting with supporters later in the week to decide on his position but states that he is ‘50-50’ at best to contest. The Castlebar councillor told The Mayo News that vying for a Dail seat may not be the best way to represent the people who voted for him in the last local elections.
“I will be having a meeting this week with my people to discuss the best course of action.
It’s about 50-50 to be honest. I am trying to weigh up what would be the best way to represent the people who voted me in.
“It seems that it will be a Fine Gael Labour Government, they will probably have 90 seats or so. Independents may not have as big a say this time round. People do seem disenchanted with the major political parties though - that has to be weighed up.
I was given a great vote and support recently and I would not be quick to turn my back on that,” Cllr Kilcoyne told The Mayo News.
