Maggie Gibbons takes a look at the best new products hitting the shelves
It’s a new year and with it comes a slew of new beauty products, some promising the earth, some costing it. You might be in the mood to try something new, but the array can be dazzling. To help, here’s my guide to some great new products out there.
Get up and glow
I spent a day with some beauty editors recently and we had so much fun yapping about the latest trends. Every season throws up a new trend, and the big emphasis right now is on skin brightening. A radiant, luminous skin tone is the trademark of a youthful complexion. Dull looking skin can often be attributed to a slowing down of cell growth and the new kids on the beauty block are enriched with brightening ingredients to leave you with a bright, radiant complexion.
The award-winning Botanics brand offers you effective and affordable products using powerful plant extracts. They recently introduced two fantastic products for an instant glow, Botanics All Bright Concentrate Serum (€9.99) promises a brighter skin in just two weeks, while Botanics All Bright Radiance Balm (€7.99) provides a glowing base or primer for under foundation. Available at Boots nationwide.
Multi-award-winner Nivea has come up trumps once again with Q10 Serum Pearls (€14.99), a powerhouse of intense care that claims to herald a new era in combating wrinkles. The intensely moisturising gel contains Q10, hyaluronic acid and creatine. Available in chemists and supermarkets nationwide.
Accentuate the positive
Highlighter and blusher are a favourite tools of make up artists, and IsaDora won’t disappoint with their Face Sculptor, a three-piece kit that contains highlighter, bronzer and blusher to enhance all your best features, and it’s great value at €25.50. They also introduced a Colour Corrector Concealer Palette (€21.25), which has correctors for grey skin tones, dark circles and a highlighter. It even allows you to custom blend your own concealer by cleverly including two different shades to test with.
NYC Smooch Proof Liquid Lipstain (€3.49) is a new collection of six brilliant new colours which are lighter than a lipstick, have none of the stickiness of a gloss and all the staying power of a stain. A seriously good brand.
Take a brow
For gorgeous, shapely eyebrows, the Catrice Eye Brow Set (€4.49 in Dunnes Stores and Penneys) is brilliant. In addition to tweezers, a brush and a mirror, it also contains two shades of powder for lighter and darker eyebrows, which can be perfectly aligned to suit your eyebrow colour.
Winter winds play havoc with our locks and L’oreal Absolut Repair Lipidium Sealing Repair is a split-end saviour for damaged hair. I was kindly given an Absolut Repair Lipidium Replenishing Care Cracker at Christmas which contained a 100ml bottle of Instant Resurfacing Shampoo and a 75ml pot of Instant Resurfacing Masque. I’ve used both products a few times, and I’m finding them really good. You’ll find this in salons nationwide
Top to toe

It will give a real boost to a tired, weary body. Massage over the body, then take a refreshing shower (or bath). Prepare to be amazed at the result, which you’ll notice immediately.
