Beauty tips for the festive season

With the social calendar filling up it’s time to consider the beauty tips and tricks for the coming season, so let’s look at some of the ways to keep you looking your best this Christmas. This is the month to grab the glittery eyeshadow, highlighter, bright lipstick and eye gel.

1. Get the glow
With all the temperature changes and air conditioning, not to mention the boozy parties, we need to make sure our skin is well nourished and moisturised. One product I strongly recommend is a good serum. My absolute favourite right now is Nunaïa (pronounced noo nigh ah). It’s an Irish product that’s deeply moisturising and enhances skin tone. Packed with plant actives, it’s pure luxury in a bottle. Available from www.kilkennyshop.com for €79.
Glowing skin always looks healthy, and Flormar Double Radiance Primer does a great job. I always mix my primer with foundation or fake tan for a bit of extra gleam.

2. Flaunt your pearlies
Red wine and mochas can dull your teeth’s brightness and affect your Christmas smile, so start early on the whitening strips, which you can get in chemists nationwide. There are many other teeth-whitening products on the market these days, so have a chat with your dentist and your chemist about what will suit you best.

3. Flutter your peepers
Maximise your lashes with a lash volumising mascara. One of the best around is Maybelline’s Total Temptation Volume Mascara. It also conditions the lashes. Great value at €7.50.
For ‘after party eyebags’, Green Angel Seaweed and Aloe Eye Gel (€19.95 from www.greenangel.com) is a must. It’s ultra cooling and can even be dabbed on over make up. An amazing product.
If you want to delight someone who loves eyeshadows then gift them the Madison Dare to Blend palette, it contains 25 shades from neutral, warm browns, to shimmering chrome finishes. Available for €29.95 at chemists nationwide.

4. Powder your pout
This is the one time of year that calls for a strong lip colour. Shiseido have introduced ModernMatte Powder lipstick. I love it because it glides on like a balm. Its non-drying formula delivers matte, full-coverage color that feels weightless and provides a powder-soft finish on lips. A unique blend of waxes and oils melts and transforms into an ultra-thin, featherweight powder, while spherical pigments float across lips to blur imperfections.
It comes in a huge colour range, and best of all it never sticks to the teeth. That, in my book, makes it a winner every time.

5. Gift to self
I must mention some fantastic gift sets – there really is some great value to be had out there with these multi-product beauty offerings. And you can always give a gift to yourself!
Nivea have a wonderful range this year containing loads of goodies, and they’re brilliantly priced from €7 to €15. The Nivea Girls’ Night In set comes in a cute ‘popcorn tin’, and contains everything a lady could look for during a DIY girly pamper session, including a headband, miscellar cleansing water, a pore-refining detox mask, a moisturiser and a nourishing lip balm.
Vichy have gift sets for every age and skin type, from the Vichy Pureté Thermale Cleansing Gift Set (€21.50), which is perfect for the makeup-loving party girl, to the Vichy Liftactiv Gift Set (€37) with products developed to help with wrinkles and provide firmness to the skin.
Phyto Phytodensia Set (€33) with plumping serum, a mask and a shampoo is great for anyone with thinning, devitalised hair.
