MUSIC lovers in Mayo are in for a rare treat next Sunday evening, June 6, as Jade Strings, one of the country’s leading cello and harp duos, perform a concert in Ballinrobe.
Under the auspices of Ballinrobe Musical Society, Aisling Ennis and Jenny Dowdall will play for two hours in The Valkenburg to help raise funds for the ‘Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust’.
Jade Strings are well-known in music circles for their work with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the Irish Film Orchestra and the Orchestra of the National Concert Hall.
Aisling and Jenny have also performed at MTV European Music Awards and on the Late Late Show, and with a host of distinguished artists, including Hayley Westenra, Julian Lloyd Webber, Virginia Kerr, Frode Olsen, Janet Baird, Kanye West, Jamiroquai, Colm Wilkinson, Declan O’Rourke, Sharon Shannon, Sinéad O’Connor, Liam Lawton and Josh Ritter. Aisling also played the Harp for Ballinrobe Musical Society’s enormously successful production of ‘The Pirate Queen’.
Their arrangement next weekend will include a specially composed piece from the Broadway musical ‘The Pirate Queen’ as well as The Swan, Allegro Appassionato and Romance by Camille Saint-Saæns and tracks from their debut CD.
The concert is the award-winning Ballinrobe Musical Society’s charity event for 2010, and a large crowd is expected. The show gets under way at 7pm and will finish around 9pm. Entry is €10.
