Gemma Hayes to play Ballina

Hailing from Tipperary, Gemma Hayes is one of the country’s best-loved singer-songwriters. She is known for her eclectic blend of folk, prog rock and electronica.
She first burst onto the music scene with her debut album, Night on My Side, which was nominated for the UK’s prestigious Mercury Music Prize. She followed that up with a win in the Best Female Artist category at Ireland’s Hot Press Awards.
Since then, Hayes has been garnering much international recognition, releasing two more albums and touring extensively. She has written songs with Adam Duritz of Counting Crows and Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine. Her music has been featured on a multitude of films and television shows, including Grey’s Anatomy, ER, and Mr And Mrs Smith.
She was nominated for the Best Irish Female award at the 2009 Meteor Ireland Music Awards (but was pipped at the post by worthy contender Imelda May).
Hayes is playing in Brennan’s Lane, Ballina, on Thursday night, May 27. Tickets cost €15.
