One of Ireland’s finest and most distinctive contemporary folk-music voices, Cork singer/songwriter Ger Wolfe will return to Westport for the first time since his headline, sold-out Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival show in 2015. He will perform an intimate gig in The Creel Restaurant at Westport Quay on Saturday, May 18, at 8pm – and no doubt the amiable Corkman will once again captivate the crowd with his bewitching songs, unassuming nature and self-deprecating banter.
The show is part of a 12-date national tour marking the launch of his latest CD, ‘Melody Bright and The Favourite Sparrow’, a compilation from some of Wolfe’s previous seven albums and a brand new single.
Wolfe’s many admirers include Christy Moore, who says Ger Wolfe’s songs always raise his spirits, and John Spillane, who dubbed him ‘The poetic soul of Ireland’. His life’s work in music is the subject of a Radio One ‘Doc on 1’ documentary, ‘Gentle Genius, Forgotten Poet’, which can be heard at www.rte.ie/radio1/doconone.
