New festival for Achill Island promises three days of music and comedy

Ciara Moynihan

To The Island is an exciting new festival taking place on Achill Island over the May Bank Holiday weekend, May 3-6, with a host of live-music and comedy gigs promised for this magical location.
Collaborating with local businesses and people, musician and Achill Islander Graham Sweeney, event producer Emily O’Callaghan and Westival’s Tara Clarke are putting together a fantastic but ‘top secret’ line up of performers along with music bus trails, great gigs and surprises. There will be music to cater for all tastes, from traditional Irish and folk all the way to electronic music straight from Berlin. Venues involved include Gielty’s, The Valley House, Lynott’s and more.
Attendees can choose to camp or to stay at any of Achill’s wonderful B&Bs, famous for their hospitality. A range of activities are available on the island, including surfing on Keel Beach and trips to Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley’s castle.
A limited number of one-day and weekend tickets are now on sale on eventbrite.com. Keep an eye on social media for more news and updates.
Tickets (€70 plus booking fees) include the music trail bus trip and access to all evenings of entertainment, and 5 percent of all tickets sales will go to environmental charities in Ireland.
