Spillane to perform in Westport

Going Out

FINEST FOLK John Spillane will perform in Matt Molloy’s, Westport, next month.

Cork folk musician John Spillane is making his way back to Westport, this time to play in Matt Molloy’s, Bridge Street, on Thursday night, March 21.
With a career spanning almost four decades, Spillane has made 12 studio albums, won two Meteor Irish Music Awards, performed all over the world and played with such musical heavy-hitters as Jimmy McCarthy, Baaba Maal and Christy Moore.
Musician, songwriter, performer, recording artist, storyteller, poet and dreamer – John Spillane is all of these things and more. His music transports the listener; his live performances captivate audiences. During his live performances, Spillane flits between beautiful poetry tinged with melancholy to roguish, irreverent Cork humour.
Like many other Corkonians, he lovingly describes the county as ‘the centre of the universe’, and it has been a huge creative influence on him. Vocally, his singing has a sean nós quality, and his voice has been described as ‘full of honesty, commitment and sensitivity’.
In a world filled with strife and upheaval, a time-out with John Spillane is enough to ease the load a bit. His appeal is broad, and he boasts fans of all ages, genders and musical tastes.
