ON THE LINE-UP Guitarist Declan Askin will perform with Brian Lennon and Bart DeBoer as part of the Novus ‘Later’ night in Westport this Friday night.
Novus ‘Later’ night is a new opportunity to experience new and exciting original music in Westport, from a number of diverse groups. The first of these nights, presented in a style similar to the great ‘Later... with Jools Holland’ shows, takes place in Westport Town Hall Theatre this Friday, July 6, at 8pm.
Friday night’s line-up sees Vera Violent, Gerard McNally, The Puddletown Suite and Declan Askin, Brian Lennon and Bartholomew DeBoer take to the stage.
Vera Violent play compelling original music influenced by all that is good in rock’n’roll since the get-go of rock’n’roll. If you like your music fast and exciting with a personal and political edge, and you want a heady mix of anger and joy, then they’re for you. Check them out on www.veraviolent.com.
Westport musician Gerard McNally is a pianist, arranger, music director and second-level music teacher with a Masters in Musicology from NUI Maynooth. His compositions express elements of classical, pop and jazz styles, as well as unorthodox metres, time signatures and formats, yet it is very accessible to all tastes. He recently released an album of 12 original compositions entitled ‘Hiatus’. Gerard will perform with Donal Hoban and Chris Darby.
Comprised of Tommy Hughes, Teresa Burke and Mary Travers, The Puddletown Suite is a musical collaboration that has been a work in progress over the last decade. Each contributor has their own musical life outside of this collective, to which some return periodically in order to liberate the songwriter from the noise in his head. To date this unhurried process has resulted in two CDs, Puddletown (2014) and The Girl Who Dives for Pearls in Puddles (2015). Both Declan Askin and Brian Lennon are members of the group Coda as well as being successful musicians in their own right, both in the traditional and classical genres. Bart DeBoer is renowned musician and producer based in the Clew Bay Recording Studio. Together they create multilayered and exciting new songs that can be best described as alternative rock.
