BIOPIC Sally Hawkins stars in Maudie.

The Linenhall Film Club’s current season draws to a close with Irish filmmaker Aisling Walsh’s lyrical biopic ‘Maudie’ on Tuesday, June 12 at 8pm.
‘Maudie’, based on a true story, is an unlikely romance in which the reclusive Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke) hires a fragile yet determined woman named Maudie (Sally Hawkins) to be his housekeeper. Maudie, bright-eyed but crippled with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, yearns to be independent, to live away from her protective family and she also yearns, passionately, to create art.
The two social misfits form a bond that soon leads to marriage. As Maudie’s creative output increases, a chance encounter with a visiting New Yorker eventually leads to wider recognition of her talent.
This gentle biopic is both an unlikely love story and an inspiring tale of the woman who became one of Canada’s most celebrated folk artists. Sally Hawkins’ stunning performance has been described as ‘remarkable’, and universally celebrated by critics.
