Thirty acts and a host of big names slated for Westport’s Acoustic Yard Music Festival 

The third Acoustic Yard Music Festival takes place from Friday, May 11, to Sunday, May 13, and this year’s line-up is jam packed with top-class acts, from the known to the up-and-coming. Headlining the this year will be Mundy and the 4 of Us, while 30 singer/songwriters from Ireland and beyond will perform around the town in bars, cafés and open-air locations.
On the Friday, the festival will open at The Clock Tavern at 5pm with ‘Music at the Clock’, an outside event with some of the artists involved in festival performing songs in an impromptu open-mic setting.
In the evening, Irish songwriting legends The 4 of Us will perform in the Clock Tavern Restaurant at 8pm, with support from Vickers Vimy.
On Saturday, between 12pm and 2pm, there will be a busking competition around the town with a €250 prize for the winner. All entrants must play original songs.
At 2pm outside the Clock Tavern there will be a free concert with some of the best new emerging acts including The Finns, Billow Wood and the talented Sina Theil.
At 4pm Tony Reidy hosts ‘The Clew Bay Folk Club’ in Matt Molloy’s Yard Bar with the theme of the event being ‘Your Favourite Songwriter’. All are welcome.
The Songwriter Club starts at 6pm upstairs at Blouser’s Bar with a workshop, discussions and impromptu performances.
In the evening, at 8pm, Mundy will perform with support from alt-folk musician Peco.
On Sunday, May 13, The Wild Atlantic Women, a collection of female singers from Donegal will perform around Brewers’ Place (off Bridge Street) in cooperation with The Gallery Wine and Tapas Bar at 3pm.
The afternoon will also include performance from two of Ireland’s brightest lights in the singer/songwriting field, Ciara O’Neill and Sara Ryan.
Later in the day, at 6pm, Brian Hassan will be singing songs from his new album ‘Tales from Home’ at The Quay Cottage; chilled music with fabulous food.
The Acoustic Yard will finish the festival with a special concert with Coda. The Westport-based all-male seven-piece Acapella group will be performing songs from their new album ‘Train of Spirits’ at Matt Molloy’s Yard Bar, with special guest Ultan Conlon singing songs from his new album ‘Last Days of the Night Owl’, which includes his single ‘The Measure’, which recently topped the RTE Radio 1 Airplay Charts.
