POOLING RESOURCES Lennie Grimes (concert organiser), Rosaleen Heraty (Manager, Westport Town Hall), aid worker Gena Heraty and musician Frank McCaffrey.
Westport Town Hall Theatre is hosting a fundraising concert in aid of the Gena Heraty Haiti Fund on Friday, February 16. The concert is being organised by Lennie Grimes, a long-standing supporter and fundraiser for this cause for many years.
On the night there will be music from Frank McCaffrey, Ciarán O’Malley and his band and there will also be a wonderful display of dancing by the Cresham Academy of Dancers, faithfully led by Bernadine Cresham-Ball.
Tomás Langan from Castlebar, who played at the theatre back in September 2017, will also return to the stage for this very special concert.
Frank McCaffrey is a well-known professional musician and singer from Westport and has performed all over the world with a huge fan base. He has played many sell-out concerts in Westport over the years.
Ciarán O’Malley from Carrakennedy, is a professional musician based in Dublin, and has also played many concerts in Westport. Ciaran’s repertoire extends through many genres and timelines, with a stage presence and performance prowess that have been compared to Danny O’Reilly from the Coronas or a modern-day Charlie Lansborough.
The Cresham Dancers were special guests during Festive Harmony concert at the theatre in December 2017, and their performance was deemed the highlight of the concerts.
The compere on the night will be comedian Frank Forde, who is well-known for turning any night’s entertainment into a laugh a minute with his jokes and impressions.
Gena Heraty from Carrarevagh, Liscarney, Westport went to Haiti in 1993 and has remained there ever since as a volunter for NPH (Our Little Brothers and Sisters), an orphanage in the hillside village of Kenscoff. She has worked tirelessly to develop a special needs programme, as well as numerous outreach programmes to provide medical, rehabilitation and educational support for over 100 families in the community where children have severe physical and or intellectual disabilities.
Gena and her team in Haiti rely heavily on the generosity and support that they receive from the fundraising abilities of the people of Mayo.
Tickets are €15 each. Any donations will also be welcome on the night. For bookings, contact 098 28459 or book online at www.westporttheatre.com.
