Handel’s Messiah for Castlebar church

Going Out

HOST Eileen Dunne from RTÉ.

On Sunday, November 26, Vocalessence are thrilled to announce the performance of ‘Handel’s Messiah, Passion, Easter and Christmas’, in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar. This will be a very special 90-minute recital of this oratorio, in that it will be the first time Handel’s Messiah will be performed by an all-female choir in Ireland.
The performance will showcase a local ladies choir, whose love for music, will add to the ambiance of this arrangement, under the direction of Kathy Fahey. Kathy has vast musical experience having conducted Messiah locally in its entirety with an 100-strong choir and an 20-piece orchestra  in 2013 and 2014, when it was performed very successfully on both occasions for charity, raising in excess of  €50,000.
Vocalessence is multi-award-winning choir set up in 2014 consisting of 35 members, representing all corners of Connacht. The ladies are thrilled to be joined by soloists, Soprano Teresa Ingrilli, who will travel from Australia to perform;  Mezzo-Soprano Anna Louise Costello, a native of Kiltimagh, who performs mainly on the continent, who will return home for the performance this November; and Tenor, Dr Kevin O’Connor, native of Westport and based in Minnesota USA ,will complete our compliment of soloists.
Mamisa String Quartet, Pianist, Ausra Kvietkute; Trumpeter, Debbie Clarke and Timpanist, Margo Carmichael, will form our orchestra for the night. The organisers are delighted to welcome special guest, RTÉ newsreader Eileen Dunne, who will be on hand to introduce what should be a truly wonderful evening of beautiful music.
