VERSATILE The RTÉ Concert Orchestra will be back in Knock Baslica next month.
Louisburgh-born soloist to feature in Messiah performance
Following last year’s sell-out Knock Basilica performance at the Concert for Peace, next month will see the return of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra for the basilica’s inaugural performance of Handel’s dramatic Messiah on Saturday, November 18.
Introducing orchestral music to new audiences since 1948, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra has built a strong connection with the public that saw it named the World’s Favourite Orchestra 2015 in an international poll (Bachtrack.com).
The orchestra is committed to an eclectic range of programming across various genres. It’s eclectic past includes a live performance of Seán Ó Riada’s Mise Éire suite along with a screening of George Morrison’s 1959 documentary; performing to an audience of 9,000 at the 3Arena with RTÉ 2fm’s Jenny Greene; playing with John Grant and Walking on Cars on RTÉ TV’s The Late Late Show; and reaching tens of thousands of young people nationwide through the Music in the Classroom series.
For the Messiah performance at Knock Basilica, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra will be conducted by Proinnsías Ó Duinn. The evening will also feature a 180-strong choir and an incomparable line-up of international soloists, including Claudia Boyle, Julian Hubbard, Christopher Cull and Mayo’s own Anne Marie Gibbons, who hails from Louisburgh. The concert will be presented by RTÉ lyric FM’s Liz Nolan.
