Chanteuse of blues and jazz Mayo is bound

Going Out

SCARLET WOMAN Mary Coughlan.

Mary Coughlan and her band are bringing her new show, Live & Kicking, to Westport Town Hall on Saturday, October 14, at 8pm. The show is a celebration of her 30-plus years in the music business.
Coughlan’s music career has been a roller coaster, and, as she affirms herself, this Live & Kicking concert will reflect that, featuring all the songs that are close to her heart and life.
Mary Coughlan has often been described as the greatest female vocalist and interpreter of songs that Ireland has ever produced. The singer proudly stands in the tradition of the iconic giants of jazz on both sides of the Atlantic, namely Billie Holiday and Edith Piaf. Many believe she rivals the greatest figures of European cabaret and American jazz-club blues because of one thing: her unique voice – blending the whiskey-blurred, smoke-seared, husky notes and laconic wit of Billie Holiday and Peggy Lee and the line of deep, down and dirty blues singers back to Memphis Minnie and Bessie Smith with the sardonic, bitter-sweet defiance and despair of the Piaf.
Mary Coughlan delivers her spellbinding performances in her delicious and unapologetic Irish drawl, sceptical, rueful, mournful and melting. A true treat for true music lovers.

To book tickets, €22.50 each, visit Westport Town Hall at westporttheatre.com or call the box office on 098 28459.
