Ciara Moynihan
Author Brian Grehan is to launch his novel ‘The Leenane Inspector’ on October 1 in The Leenane Hotel between 6pm and 8pm.
Grehan lives in Dublin, but after living in the Middle East for nine years during the ’90s, he bought a house at Aillmore, near Louisburgh, when he came home, and he remains a regular visitor there. His love of the West started when he and his wife, Deirdre, spent their honeymoon in Leenane.
In 2011, Grehan published ‘The Well Travelled Road’, a collection of short stories and poems, featuring the geographically disparate locales of his life, Arabia, Dun Laoghaire and Louisburgh.
His latest work, a fiction, centres around the character James Wyatt, who is sent to investigate water pollution problems in Leenane in the summer of 1990. “Middle aged, with issues, he soon becomes entangled in a web of greed, intrigue and danger. He also finds love,” the blurb reads.
“The drama plays out against the beautiful but rugged Connemara landscape, and forces Wyatt to re-examine his life.”
As with Grehan’s previous work, proceeds from the sale of ‘The Leenane Inspector’ will go to Sightsavers, a charity that helps prevent children from losing their sight.
