Mullingar band Cronin, who have strong connections with Mayo, are returning to their roots next week with two gigs in the county.
First up the lads, who recently hit the headlines after partying with Noel Gallagher of Oasis in London, will play at the Newport Street Festival with band The Afters on this Saturday, July 30. Then on Thursday, August 4, they will play a special acoustic gig in McLoughlin’s of Mulranny, where they will be joined by Enda Molloy from The Biblecode Sundays.
These are exciting times for Cronin as their debut album, ‘The First Kiss of Love’ is being released for download, stream, CD and vinyl on Live Transmission Records from this, Friday, July 29.
The album has been a labour of love over three years for the band based around Leeds/Irish brothers Johnny and Mick Cronin (whose father hails from Crossmolina and grandmother from Ballycastle) along with Brian Murphy and Fiachra Milner. The album was recorded in their own Transmission Rooms studio with long term collaborators Ger McDonnell (U2, Manics, Dexys), Karl Odlum (The Frames, Fionn Regan) and string arranger Terry Edwards (PJ Harvey, Tindersticks).
"It is quite a retro album and we hold our hands up to that. The influence of our heroes is all over it for everyone to hear. We sort of had to get these fantasies out of our system before we can move on as songwriters,” said Mick Cronin.
Along with their gigs in Mayo, Cronin will also play in Cork, Mullingar, Slane, Kells, and Longford in the coming weeks before playing twice at Electric Picnic at the start of September.
