Bruiser hits it on the nose
The Bruiser Theatre Company will stage ‘The Nose’ in Ballina Arts Centre tonight (Tuesday) and in the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, tomorrow night, April 16. Both peformances start at 8pm.
A hilarious comedy, ‘The Nose’ shines a merciless light on the murky world of bureaucracy. Energetic, visually exciting and very funny, the play – a fresh new adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s classic short story – is written by and stars long-term Bruiser collaborator Patrick J O’Reilly.
Alexey, a government bureaucrat, awakens one morning horrified to discover that his nose has run off! The bureaucrat frantically tries to stop his runaway nose from causing him all manner of public humiliation and get it back on his face.
O’Reilly’s adaptation preserves Gogol’s whimsical and humorous writing style and pokes fun at the incompetence of ‘the powers that be’ and the superficial nature of society’s ‘respectable’ classes.
Directed by Lisa May, ‘The Nose’ promises to showcase all the dynamism of Bruiser’s brilliant trademark physical theatre.
