Clifden Trad Fest kicks off this week


The fifth annual Clifden Traditional Music Festival starts this Thursday, April 10. The festival, which runs until Sunday, April 13 will be officially opened in the Clifden Station House Hotel on Thursday evening at 7pm by head of music at RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, Neansaí Ní Choisdealbha, with a concert featuring a host of visiting and local talent taking place afterwards.
With music sessions, workshops, craic and lots of ceol, this year’s Festival promises to be a must-do for all lovers of traditional Irish music. A host of champion musicians from all over Ireland will attend, including Laura Beagon (fiddle) from Monaghan; James Duggan (fiddle); Maura Walsh (concertina) and Graham Guerin (accordion) from Kerry; Michael Curran (Tyrone) and Daithi Gormley (Sligo) both on accordion; husband and wife duo Lorna and Brian Fitzgerald from Limerick; members of the Border Collies Group Theresa and Declan Payne; The Broderick Family from Corofin and many more musicians. Sessions will take place all weekend over the town, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, and music workshops will take place in Clifden Community School from 10am to 12.30pm on the Saturday.
