‘Real McCoy’ to be staged in Westport

Hit comedy ‘It’s The Real McCoy’, written and directed by Midwest Radio’s Tommy Marren, will be staged this Sunday night, February 10, at 8pm in the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport. The show is being organised by Westport Lions Club.
The play has been attracting audiences from across the region for the past 12 months, but this will be the first time the play has been performed in the Westport area.
Set in rural Ireland in 1964, ‘It’s The Real McCoy’ tells the story of Madge Molloy – a woman in her mid-60s – who has lived over 40 years of her life wondering why her husband Tom, whom she was married to for a mere four months, disappeared without trace or reason. However, the arrival of a new curate throws new light onto the circumstances around Tom’s disappearance.
The play also contains a series of sub-plots and a host of memorable characters, including a gormless postman (played by Midwest’s Gerry Glennon), a dominant woman, a frustrated curate, a frightened husband and Ireland’s two nosiest neighbours.
Proceeds from the play will will go to the Zoe Piasecki fund. Zoe was diagnosed with an aggressive strain of leukaemia, and her parent Jan and Martin face at least two years of medical treatment, and Zoe will have to make weekly trips to Crumlin Children’s Hospital in Dublin.

Tickets (€15 each) and are now on sale at Durkin’s Gala, Louisburgh; at Sheridan’s Centra and Chambers’ Convenience Stores in Newport; and from both the Castlecourt Hotel and Clew Bay Hotel in Westport.
