Big Tom keeps his eye on the ball

IRELAND’S most enduring showbiz legend returns to Castlebar on Saturday night. When it comes to the showband sound, Big Tom McBride from Oram, Castleblayney, and his band, The Mainliners, still leaves them all in the shade, 45 years after he first came on the scene.
Big Tom and The Mainliners are doing four dance dates in July. They play the Abbey Hotel in Donegal town the night before the Castlebar concert. The following Friday night sees them on home ground in the Glencarn in Castleblayney and they make the long trip down to the Rhu Glen, three miles from Waterford city, on Saturday, July 24.
It also looks increasingly likely that a few dates will be added in August.
“After the show in Castlebar on Saturday night, we’ll be heading back up north.
I love the football and I travel to nearly all of Monaghan’s league and championship games. This is a good bunch of lads we have now and they have been around for a few years. The people are behind them and they will have huge support in Clones” says Tom who was in McHale Park back in March lending support to Monaghan in their NFL game against Mayo.
Doors open around 8.30pm for the Castlebar show and Showbud will provide the music from 9pm until 10.30pm when Big Tom and the band come on stage. Tickets are €25 and are available from the Royal Theatre box office and on the door on the night.
