AMERICAN country star Gene Watson is the headline act for this year’s Country Fest which has a new home in the Aura Leisure Complex in Letterkenny. The event will be staged on Saturday and Sunday, July 31 and August 1, and will feature around 60 acts on four stages over both days.
This is the third annual Country Fest to be staged in the Ulster region. The first was two years ago in Dungannon while last year’s event was held in the King’s Hall in Belfast where the headline act was Randy Travis.
Gene Watson is one of those singers who has remained ever true to the traditional roots of country music. No stranger to these shores, he has performed a number of shows around Ireland in recent years. (He is also performing in concert in the TF in Castlebar on August 7.)
Also over from the USA for the Country Fest will be the Tennessee 3, members of Johnny Cash’s original band and George Hamilton IV.
Mayo’s Frank McCaffrey is also slated to appear, as are Brendan Shine, Eamon McCann, Roly Daniels, Brian Coll, Patrick Feeney, Declan Nerney, Brendan Quinn, Michael Denver, Lisa Stanley, Jeff Tuttle, Shaun Loughrey, Hugo Duncan, Jimmy Buckley, Michael Cleary and Breege Kelly, Nathan Carter, Kieran McGilligan, the Benn Sisters, Thomas Maguire and Fhiona Ennis, Damien Bowe, Carmel McLoughlin and many others.
