‘Erratics’, a collection of new work by Leitrim-based artist, St John Hennessy, will be on display at The Waterfront Gallery, Westport, from this Friday, June 11.
St John Hennessy worked as a commercial art director, graphic designer and model-maker before turning full-time to sculpture and fine art.
His work draws inspiration from nature and the sciences and his wide range of interests are reflected in work, which is often eclectic and employs a variety of materials and techniques. Elements of humour are regularly present in his work, as is an emphasis on craft and finish.
Hennessy has had two solo exhibitions, ‘Misc Items’ at the Crow Gallery, Dublin, in 2007 and ‘Anomaly’ at The Atrium, Council Offices, Carrick-on-Shannon in 2003, having spent a year as the Artist in Residence at the Leitrim Sculpture Centre, Manorhamilton. He has exhibited in many group shows throughout Ireland, including exhibitions at the RHA, Aer Rianta, Iontas and the Claremorris Open.
Commenting on the upcoming ‘Erratics’ exhibition, Aisling Smyth, Gallery Director said: “I am really looking forward to seeing the reaction to this show. St John’s work is mysterious, intellectually compelling and also full of fun. The show is sure to grab the imagination of anyone who sees it.”

‘Erratics’ opens at The Waterfront Gallery, The Quay, Westport, on Friday, June 11, at 7.30pm. It will run until July 2. The gallery is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 6pm, or by appointment.
