Ballina Mayor calls for expulsion of Israeli ambassador
The Mayor of Ballina, Cllr Mary Kelly, has called for the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador from Ireland, and the immediate withdrawal of the Irish Ambassador from Jerusalem, following the weekend attack on the flotilla of ships bringing aid to Gaza.
Ballina man Derek Graham and his wife Jenny are aboard the MV Rachel Corrie which is heading towards the Israeli sea blockade at present. Cllr Kelly, who is a first cousin of Mr Graham, also called for the lifting of the Gaza siege and received unanimous backing from her fellow councillors at last night’s meeting of Ballina Town Council.
Labour Relations Commission hold hearing into Áras Attracta closures
HSE management and union representatives of staff of the Áras Attracta Nursing Unit are today meeting to discuss issues surrounding the proposed closure of part of the Swinford facility. The HSE are proposing to close a bungalow on the grounds of unit, following on from the closure of another building last year. A public meeting was held in Swinford last night where concerns regarding the future of the unit were raised.
Funeral arrangements for Adrian Freeman yet to be confirmed
The family of Adrian Freeman, the Mayo hurler who died in a car accident in Australia last Saturday, have arrived in Melbourne in Australia, but details with regard to a date for the 24-year-old’s funeral have yet to be released.
