Shotgun Willie Nelson to play Castlebar
Michael Commins
ONE of the most iconic stars of American country music, Willie Nelson, will perform in concert in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on Saturday, June 5. Shotgun Willie, as he is known by his friends, has long been a cherished name on the music circuit in the USA, and, like Johnny Cash, he has always been able to command huge regard across the musical spectrum.
Nelson celebrated his 70th birthday recently with a mega party, which was televised coast to coast in the USA. Some of America’s leading entertainers from all genres of music were there to salute him, and former President Bill Clinton came on stage to pay the singer a special tribute.
Nelson’s lengthy string of hits includes ‘Always On My Mind’, ‘Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain’, ‘Good Hearted Woman’, ‘Uncloudy Day’, ‘Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys’ and many more. A renowned songwriter, his classic hits include ‘Crazy’ (made famous by Patsy Cline), ‘Four Walls’ (Faron Young) and ‘Night Life’ (Ray Price).
Willie is doing just four shows in Ireland, and his trip west in early June is likely to sell out fast.
