Buck Taylor’s long-awaited new album, ‘Sweet Soul Music’, is to be launched in Ballina and Castlebar in two weeks time.
The album, which was painstakingly recorded in the Attic Studios in Monaghan over the past few months, is Taylor’s second album launch since he moved to Ballina from Boston some years ago with his (Ballina native Fedelma Mullen) wife and children.
‘Sweet Soul Music’ is a great mix of musical tastes and influences, as Taylor sought to exploit his varied, soulful voice to its full potential. The listener is sure to be pleased with some of the songs that have been included. Fantastic numbers, such as Al Green’s famous ballad ‘Let’s Stay Together’, Lionel Richie’s ‘Easy’, Billy Joel’s ‘Just The Way You Are’ and the classic from The Temptations, ‘My Girl’.
Some of Ireland’s best-known and most-respected session musicians were engaged to perform on many of the tracks. Ronnie O’Flynn (ex-Van Morrison Band member) recently joined Taylor’s band, and he laid down the bass tracks to shoulder up all the songs that feature on the album.
Other great and memorable tracks included on ‘Sweet Soul Music’ include Jackie Wilson’s ‘Higher and Higher’; ‘Sweet Soul Music’, by Arthur Conley; ‘Midnight Hour’, by Wilson Pickett; and the great disco track from the ’70s by The Real Thing, ‘You to me are Everything’.
To celebrate the album release, Buck Taylor and his band are planning a ‘whistle-stop’ nationwide tour – something to keep an ear out for.
