Michael, who was a native of Kinnegad, County Westmeath, worked in Manchester for some time before making his home in Ballintubber. Blessed with a caring and affable personality he made numerous friends in the Ballintubber and surrounding communities. He enjoyed meeting people whether it was during a shopping trip or delivering a prize-winning cheque to a lucky Gael Linn member.
He was blessed with a strong sense of community and in his heart he held a firm belief that people fuelled by a strong community spirit would blossom and grow. Michael belonged to a generation of people whose goal in life was to pass on to their children a sense of gratitude for what they had and a desire to pass on a better community to future generations. His death has bade farewell to a man who will be remembered for his integrity and pleasant personality. The esteem in which he was held in his community was reflected by the large numbers of mourners who came to bid farewell to Michael during his funeral from Ballintubber Resource Centre to Ballintubber Abbey. After requiem Mass he was laid to rest in the local cemetery.
To his wife, Ann (nee Birkett) and his daughters Eimer and Bríana his extended family and many friends in England and Ireland we extend our sincerest sympathies.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.
