How toxic are your beauty products?

Maggie Gibbons

Your skin is the largest organ in your body, it’s a structural miracle, yet it receives little respect. We load on dollops of day/night creams without a thought as to what’s actually in them.
When you apply creams topically, they don’t just stay on the surface – they penetrate the layers.
This scares the daylights out of me when I think of the all the products I have put on my skin by way of lotions and potions down the years without a consideration as to what was in them and where it was reaching. Vanity, did I ever offend thee?
Many chemicals are harmful and toxic to the body over long-term use. I’m not going into a big lecture about the damaging effects, nor am I going list them all, as I am just as ignorant as the regular shopper. However, through lots of research I have become more aware recently and now read the ingredients before I purchase.
The chief culprits are parabens, which are cheap preservatives. From what I’ve read, they are now viewed as  highly toxic. I suggest you take some of your skin care products and check the ingredients; it is a good exercise in awareness anyway. Do your bit of research.
Skincare has greatly evolved to a stage of epic proportions and ‘miracle’ creams are now the order of the day, but at what cost? You can age beautifully and naturally without resorting to the knife or injections. Stop getting carried away with images in magazines of women over 50 without a wrinkle. It’s called airbrushing ladies!

Natural range
Enter Biofresh Skincare. Their extensive range of skin-care products is quite unique, in that they use natural ingredients – many of the products are 100 percent natural – and don’t add any artificial fragrances, colours, parabens or preservatives.
The prices are excellent, and the quality of their range is really superb. It includes facial creams, moisturisers and masks, eye creams, body lotions and even hair care products and bath and shower gels.
I am particularly partial to the Anti Age Serum in the facial skin-care range, which contains the rare and expensive Rose Oil of Bulgaria as its main ingredient. In fact, many of the products in the extensive range contain rose oil, which is so luxurious.
After using the serum, my skin appears instantly hydrated and has a lovely dewy glow.
And best of all, I don’t have to worry about the presence of any nasty toxic chemicals. Brilliant.
