Ballinrobe solicitor suspended but vows to clear his name

Ballinrobe solicitor Daniel Coleman was suspended from practicing yesterday (Monday) but has vowed to clear his name. Suspended solicitor vows to clear his name

A BALLINROBE solicitor was suspended from practicing yesterday (Monday) but has vowed to clear his name.
Daniel J Coleman of Coleman and Company Solicitors, Main Street, Ballinrobe was suspended by the High Court on foot of an application to the court by the Law Society of Ireland.
The suspension relates to lack of insurance cover for his practice after irregularities at his office. However Mr Coleman has stated that his company will continue to practice with another solicitor at the helm and he is confident that he will be vindicated as a result of actions he is taking against a former employee of his.
Mr Coleman has taken civil proceedings to the High Court against former employee Seán Kenny and his brothers Darragh and Eamon Kenny, while he has also reported alleged irregularities on his files to the Law Society and An Garda Siochana for investigation.
“I took an injunction against Seán Kenny and civil proceedings have been initiated by me and I have contacted the Gardaí in relation to the matter.”
With regard to his suspension - which will run as long as Coleman is unable to obtain insurance - he states that it is purely related to insurance issues.
“I have to accept the decision because I have to accept what the law says - if I am unilaterally suspended then I cannot practice. It is like having no insurance for a car - you cannot drive in that event.
“But I have made alternative provisions for my clients. My suspension is in relation to insurance - it is not for any other reason or conduct.”
He believes he will be able to practice again in the future.
“I’m looking forward to having my name cleared fully and completely in court where I believe I will be fully vindicated.”
