MUSIC Drunken Monkeys snatch awards

Super new rock group The Drunken Monkeys from Kiltimagh/Kilkelly are storming local talent competitions. Drunken Monkeys snatch awards

Ok, it’s not quite a case of light-fingered, trophy-obsessed primates running amok while under the influence, but just as entertaining is super new rock group The Drunken Monkeys from Kiltimagh/Kilkelly.
The Drunken Monkeys are creating quite a stir in the west and midlands. They just landed first prize in the famous Bands on the Run talent show in Claremorris, and in the last year, they also won talent shows in Swinford and Ballyhaunis. The band’s lead guitarist, Donal Walsh, has also won awards for his unique ‘drum-stick style’ plucking.
The band is comprised of Donal, his brother Eoin on drums and David Gunnigan on bass. These musicians were born with music in their blood. Donal and Eoin are nephews of X Factor judge Louis Walsh and sons of Paul and Evelyn Walsh from Kiltimagh. Eveyln has starred in leading roles in musicals nationwide, and her dad, Christy Armstrong from Carrick-on-Shannon, played in show bands and taught music in his home county of Leitrim.
David is son of Pat and Bernie Gunnigan, Woodfield, Kilkelly. Pat played alongside David’s uncle, the late Seamus Sammon, in the popular band Rolled Gold, while David’s mum is niece of the Gills from the famous Royal Blues.
The Drunken Monkeys are much in demand these days and have dates coming up in Claremorris, Cong, Swinford and Ballyhaunis. Watch out for them at a venue near you.
